Why Transformational Leaders Are so Important
The last ten years have seen a huge shift in the nature of leadership. For decades, companies have used traditional management models to run their businesses. This has led to a lot of people being promoted to positions of power, while others fall into place due to their ability to get things done without being asked. While this kind of management may have made a lot of sense at a time when a company had a handful of employees, it is no longer viable in today’s highly competitive world. The only way to succeed in this world is to adapt to change. But this requires a different type of leadership. Transformational leadership provides an effective model for leading people through change and uncertainty.
Transformational leadership is a style of leadership that seeks to transform employees by using principles from the fields of psychology, sociology, and economics. The key difference between a transformational leader and a transactional leader is that the former focuses on building self-awareness, interpersonal skills, emotional intelligence, vision, and motivation among others while the latter concentrates on meeting the basic needs of employees and ensuring that they perform at their best.
Transformational leaders inspire, challenge, educate, motivate, and guide their followers through the most critical and complex tasks, by communicating in a way that’s clear, concise, and relevant. Transformational leaders have the courage to speak truth to power — with both conviction and humility. Transformational leaders are intentional, honest, humble, and compassionate.
What Is Transformational Leadership?

However, transformational leaders will be consistent in their efforts to help their team members grow.
